Summary: My wife and I rented the cabin so that we, along with our son, his wife, and their one year old, could attend a family celebration held at another location on Lake Anna. We could tell the cabin was dated, but after arriving proved more so than we understood. For example, the only apparently working smoke detector was placed on a ledge on the stairs next to older inoperative ones. The ceiling mount was there, but the old detector was lying nearby. The guest book had an apology that the clothes washer was inoperative, but it looked like that note might be a bit dated. The bathrooms were very dated with stained toilets and loose tiles in places. The gas grill worked, but two of the cooking grates would fall onto the burners. The lake access from the back of the house was very narrow, shallow and muddy. I’d imagine you could launch a small kayak, but nothing larger. Definitely does not offer much of a view of the lake either. Unfortunately, our last night was punctuated by our son discovering a live rat in the downstairs toilet. It appeared to have entered via the septic line. Needless to say, our son and daughter did not want to stay in their room the rest of the night for fear for the baby. My son kept the rat in the toilet by placing something on the lid. The rat appeared to leave the way it came in eventually. We said goodbye by to them at 2am as they headed back to Northern Va. Definitely a memorable night, but not at all memories we wanted.
